National Horse Protection Day – March 1, 2023

National Horse Protection Day is March 1, 2023. This day can be a vehicle to bring awareness to the fact that horse abuse and neglect are still rampant.

Horses helped us build this nation and today continue to serve us in many arenas such as police departments and the military. And horses are instrumental in therapy programs such as Equine Assisted Therapy and Equine Assisted Learning.

Our American Horse Rescue Network therapy therapy horses bring incredible joy to seniors and children with special needs.

At AHRN we support our military. We help sponsor Tee It Up For The Troops and Salute to Servicewomen. Horses served in our military and deserve recognition.

Staff Sergeant Reckless fought with the Marines in the Korean War and was named by Life Magazine among America’s top 100 heroes. During The Battle For Outpost Vegas, Reckless carried ammunition to the front lines and the wounded back to safety. Despite being
shot twice she continued without escort, doing all this on her own. Yes, a true American hero.

Here’s a couple links to read about her:

Horses serve us in so many ways as described above. Yet, they are subject to abuse, neglect and slaughter. And one of the biggest abusers of horses is The Bureau of Land Management.

Despite President Richard Nixon signing into law the “Wild Free-Roaming Horses and Burros Act” (Public Law 92-195)” The BLM continues to round up wild mustangs and burros in cruel and inhumane ways. If you are not aware of this just Google or contact us.

Horses helped us build this nation and they continue to serve us in many
capacities to this day. Yet they are subject to horrific treatment—neglect, abuse and slaughter.

We have a short movie that we invite you to see, entitled, “Horses and Humans: Our Past, Present and Future.” It is an educational piece and highlights many of the incredible gifts horses provide us. It also shows the abuse many segments of our society perpetrate on our equines.

What can you do to help these incredible creatures?

For National Horse Protection Day we suggest two activities:

  • Find a local horse rescue facility and make a donation directly to them.
  • PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE: Spread the word and share this information with your friends and family.

Sincerely,
American Horse Rescue Network
